Aromatherapy is the use of natural essential oils used to treat the whole person; in body, mind and spirit, to improve physical and emotional wellbeing.

Each essential oil is made up of a unique ‘botanical cocktail’ of natural compounds, extracted from aromatic plants. It’s this natural chemistry which gives essential oils their powerful scent and therapeutic properties and is what makes Aromatherapy a truly sensory experience. When we breathe in essential oils our brain recognises them as aromas, which can influence the way we feel.

When used safely and in synergy as a blend, essential oils can help to balance our nervous system as we breathe in their beautiful aromas or soothe muscular aches when applied as a remedy to the skin.

Aromatherapy Massage is a great antidote to stress, anxiety and related conditions – inhaling the oils whilst experiencing a massage helps to deepen the level of relaxation, encouraging our physical body to ‘let go’ of built up tension. This allows a true sense of equilibrium to be reached, which is the state in which your body will naturally start to heal.

Aromatherapy may help to treat stress, anxiety, depression, hormonal imbalances, insomnia, autoimmune diseases, joint pain, muscular aches, tension, headaches and migraines. Many other clinical conditions may also respond extremely well to Aromatherapy including skin, digestive, respiratory and vascular disorders.

Essential oils can be inhaled, diffused, added to baths, creams or ointments and are applied to the skin in an Aromatherapy Massage via the use of a carrier oil (such as almond or grapeseed). Lydia encourages the safe practice of essential oils and advises that they are not to be applied neat onto the skin or to be taken internally. Please don’t hesitate to ask Lydia if you have any questions about how to use essential oils safely.

“I was lucky enough to be treated to a series of aromatherapy treatments with Lydia a couple of years ago. Having had several treatments after some stressful times, I found them amazingly relaxing and de-stressing - I came away feeling rejuvenated and found my sleep was improving too! I have continued with these treatments every month. Lydia provides a very beneficial experience, is very professional in her approach and I am so lucky to have found her locally in Exeter”
